FLYING THROUGH THE NIGHT SKY
Brocken 5.6 is a mesmerizing immersive installation that recreates the "Brocken effect"—a mystical mountain phenomenon where an observer sees their own shadow surrounded by a rainbow. Japanese artist Yasuhiro Chida translates this atmospheric magic into a walk-in experience using a massive metal cube pierced by over 50,000 tiny, hand-drilled holes.
As light streams through these thousands of apertures, it creates the profound illusion of flying through a vast, star-filled night sky. The work beautifully embodies the Japanese concept of ma—the profound "in-between space" that exists between objects and moments. It is a contemplative journey that challenges the viewer's sense of gravity and spatial boundaries.
