The Digital Gaze of the Wild

 

Animals is an interactive land-art installation that bridges the gap between raw nature and the digital age. Built upon the hyper-realistic photography of Suren Manvelyan, the work celebrates the mesmerizing beauty of animal eyes—both terrestrial and aquatic. From the sharp gaze of a Caiman to the depth of a Chimpanzee’s eye, the installation brings visitors face-to-face with the "soul" of 16 different species.

In this digital ecosystem, the animals are alive and sensitive. Using 40 recycled smartphones spread across a vast outdoor area, the eyes react to the festival's environment. Like in real life, noise and movement trigger natural reactions: some animals will shyly hide if the audience is too loud, while others might switch into a defensive mode. It is a playful yet profound reflection on our relationship with the wild.
