A Landscape of Afterimages

 

Aftereal is an immersive light landscape that blurs the boundaries between physical reality and human perception. Thousands of luminescent strings vibrate in the darkness, creating glowing, bluish traces that evoke images of flowing water, mysterious energies, or ethereal creatures drinking in the moonlight.

The installation plays with the concept of the "afterimage"—the visuals exist only within the viewer's eyes and brain, questioning what we perceive as "true appearance." Using kilometers of string, small motors, and stroboscopic UV light, Chida transforms a physical space into a meditative, dreamlike vision where every movement feels like a ghostly imprint of another world.
